TUMI Luxury Luggage

TUMI is a long-established American company and a leader in the luggage, travel bags, and luxury accessories industry, with over 40 years of experience and a global presence. Today, the brand has over 2,000 retail locations in more than 75 countries. Since 2016, TUMI has been part of the Samsonite Group, contributing significantly to the group’s business growth.

The History of TUMI

TUMI was founded in 1975 and takes its name from a Peruvian deity discovered by its founder, Charlie Clifford, a former Peace Corps volunteer in Peru and an importer of leather bags from South America.

The company’s development has always been driven by a focus on innovation, which, as early as the 1980s, led to the introduction of travel bags made from abrasion-resistant FXT™ Ballistic Nylon®.

High standards of technology and design underpin the more than 125 patents on which TUMI has built its success over the years, becoming a market leader: the Safecase™ system, which effectively protects against impacts and vibrations; the swivel hook, for greater flexibility while traveling; the Omega Closure System®, the anti-sagging zipper that protects the suitcase from damage and wear over time; and the TUMI Tracer® identification system, for recovering lost luggage.

The design of the collections is inspired by everyday life and aims to simplify every aspect of travel, ensuring comfort and maximum security in any situation.

Meticulous research and the careful selection of high-quality materials ensure maximum reliability and durability for all TUMI products. From suitcases Tumi to travel bags, from backpacks to accessories, all TUMI products undergo a combination of over 30 stress tests to verify: color and shade retention at various temperatures; the durability of zippers, seams, and handle lifting and pulling mechanisms; and rigorous timing cycles, as well as drop and roll tests.

TUMI is also committed to environmental sustainability. Through its search for alternative and sustainable materials, the American company has reduced the use of PVC in its products by over 90% and replaced virgin zinc with recycled zinc in the production of metal parts for its branded luggage, backpacks, and travel bags.
