Che cosa è il Lucchetto TSA e perché sceglierlo

Suitcases with TSA locks

When you’re choosing your next suitcase or travel accessory—such as a duffel bag or garment bag—you’ll be faced with hundreds of products with a wide variety of features. In our Suitcase Buying Guide, we’ve already discussed how to navigate all the different options to choose the ideal luggage. Today, however, we’re focusing on one specific must-have accessory for any suitcase or travel accessory: the TSA-approved lock.

What Is a TSA Lock?

This is a combination lock equipped with a lock mechanism compatible with a universal key available to every customs officer working at a U.S. airport. The acronym for the device refers to the U.S. government agency responsible for airport security in the United States, the “Transportation Security Administration, to be precise.

The TSA lock was designed to prevent damage to the suitcase’s lock during unannounced inspections of checked baggage by U.S. airport authorities (authorized following the September 11, 2001, attacks).

In fact, a suitcase equipped with a TSA lock allows customs agents to open the luggage without using force, using the universal key, and to reseal it once the security inspection is complete.

For obvious security reasons, the universal key is not provided at the time of purchase and cannot be purchased separately at a later date.

A high-quality security system for suitcases

A TSA lock is perhaps the first sign of a quality product and is absolutely essential if you intend to buy a suitcase that is secure and built to last.

The main feature of locks with TSA technology is the inclusion of a secondary opening mechanism operated by a universal key. Thanks to this system, airport staff won’t have to break any locks but can easily open your luggage.

TSA technology can be found both on the luggage’s original locks—such as the one that secures the zippers on soft-sided wheeled suitcases—and on additional locks that can be purchased separately. Furthermore, it works with both combination locks and key locks, without distinction. For obvious security reasons, TSA keys are not for sale.

All luggage and locks sold on Studioarch are equipped with TSA technology, regardless of model, size, brand, or price range.
